Karla writes and directs comedies and dramas for film and live performance, discussing the intricacies of life, self-growth, and societal expectations from varying perspectives. She has been recognized by Women in Film LA and the 48-Hour Film Project as Woman Filmmaker of the Year and has been placed as a finalist in festivals such as the Toronto International Women Film Festival and Austin Comedy Film Festival. Her feature-length script “Keeping It Together” has placed as a Semifinalist in the LA International Screenplay Awards and Quarterfinalist in the LA International Screen Play Awards – Diversity Initiative.
As a current cast member of one of The Pack Theater’s house sketch teams, Wiggle Room, and as an independent stand up comedian and monologist, she performs live, monthly, throughout Los Angeles.
Karla is also Co-Creator and Co-Host for CarKar Comedy, a monthly standup show produced by Karla Espino and Carmen Scott, and a show producer for LatinX Comedy Pachanga.
